Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness

Lewis & Clark’s route (marked by black traces) followed the Missouri from St. Lolo to its headwaters at the Three Forks of the Missouri east of the Rockies. After caching their boats, they made contact with Shoshone Indians in the Bitterroot Valley that traded for horses & a guide across the mountains. The blue trace was the route I followed through the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness until it intersected with the historical route of Lewis & Clark in Lolo & the Clearwater.
